UGC 9588: Another Merger in Progress?

Abstract

There is increasing evidence that gravitational interactions and mergers have a role to play in the evolution of elliptical galaxies. They may explain the present morphology of some, if not all, ellipticals. They may also be at the origin of observed radio emission and nuclear activity in galaxies.
