Abstract
The adrenal glands are small, yellow, retroperitoneal organs located within the adipose tissue near the upper poles of the kidneys. The right adrenal gland is triangular in shape and appears as a cap over the upper pole of the right kidney. On transverse section, it lies medial to the right lobe of the liver, posterior to the inferior vena cava and adjacent to the right crus of the diaphragm. The left adrenal is half-moon shaped and is located on a line connecting the upper pole of the left kidney and the aorta, adjacent to the left crus of the diaphragm.
