Abstract
This article is intended to highlight the importance of planetary nebulae (PN) as objectives of modern astronomical research. We do this by discussing an interesting subgroup of these sources, namely the aged ones. These old PN represent stages immediately before the nebulae become part of the general interstellar medium and before their central stars turn into white dwarfs.
