Intracellular Ca2+ Homeostasis: Receptor-Activated Ca2+ Channels and Intracellular Ca2+ Pools

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIH,volume 52))

Abstract

In eukaryotic cells, the intracellular free calcium concentration, [Ca2+]i, plays a critical role at almost every level. Key functions, such as excitability, contraction, metabolism and gene expression require changes in [Ca2+]i.
