Abstract
Organic solvents may exert their anaesthetic effect on central nervous tissue by affecting the cell membrane integral enzymes, which regulate the ion transport through the membrane (Korpela and Tähti 1986). In the present study, the effect of n-hexane and its metabolites 2,5-hexanedione, 2-hexanol and 2-hexanone on membrane acetylcholinesterase (AChE) were studied.
