Abstract
In this paper we discuss the measurement of the τ polarization at LEP and its application for precision tests of the Standard Model. The observables which can be constructed for this purpose and different classes of radiative corrections which affect these quantities are carefully reviewed. We discuss the expected statistical and systematic errors for Apol and compare them with the size of electroweak corrections.
Finally, going beyond the standard model, we argue that the size of the experimental errors, for theoretically interesting quantities deteriorates significantly if the Z-fermion couplings are non-universal.
