Zusammenfassung
Die elektrische Aktivität des menschlichen Gehirns erzeugt ein magnetisches Feld, das außerhalb des Schädels meßbar ist, ähnlich wie die Verteilung elektrischer Potentialdifferenzen auf der Kopfhaut (Williamson et al. 1983). Die Magnetoenzephalographie (MEG) ist sozusagen die Schwester der schon lange bekannten Elektroenzephalographie (EEG). Messungen magnetischer Felder des Kopfes in den letzten Jahren haben gezeigt, daß fokale neuronale Aktivität auf einige Millimeter genau mit ihrem Schwerpunkt dreidimensional bestimmbar ist (Williamson u. Kaufman 1988). Daher besteht auch von der Seite der — insbesondere prächirurgischen — Epilepsiediagnostik ein großes Interesse an dem Einsatz dieser neuen nichtinvasiven Möglichkeit (Vieth 1984, 1987). So ist die MEG eine wesentliche Ergänzung der EEG bei der örtlichen Bestimmung umschriebener neuronaler Quellen (Vieth 1984, 1987).
