Abstract
The importance of being earnest in performing new methods of treating disc disease can be seen in sensational reports of newspapers and television and in hostile reactions of disappointed patients. Especially in such a large city as Berlin, where specialists for the spine are to be found in at least ten clinics, a bad result immediately forces the patient to go from one hospital to another and not seldom the danger arises for a modern method, and also the physician, to be discriminated. In order to avoid such risks as far as possible, we handle every new procedure extremely cautiously with restrictive deliberations.
