Zusammenfassung
Nach der Erstbeschreibung durch Trosseau [32] hat von Recklinghausen 1889 die Bezeichnung Hämochromatose geprägt und die klassische Symptometrias Hepatomegalie, Melanodermie und Diabetes mellitus beschrieben [20]. In der medizinischen Literatur der Jahrhundertwende wird die idiopathische Hämochromatose als eine extrem seltene Erkrankung mit infauster Prognose und ungeklärter Ätiologie beschrieben. Heute wissen wir, daß die Hämochromatose eine angeborene Eisenspeichererkrankung ist. Sie wird autosomal-rezessiv vererbt, und die für das Zustandekommen der Erkrankung verantwortliche Genstörung ist mit der HLA-Region assoziiert auf dem Chromosom 6 lokalisiert [19]. Ihre Häufigkeit wird auf 20–40 Erkrankungen pro 100 000 Menschen geschätzt.
