Tunneling and the Energy Gap in the High-Temperature Superconductors

Abstract

We argue that, when taken as a whole, the available tunneling data provide strong evidence for an energy gap in 123 YBaCuO and 2212 BiSrCaCuO. A value of 2Δ/k Tc ≃ 6–7 is deduced using data for which both the gap and the gap opening transition temperature are available. The data are compared with recent Raman and infrared reflectance data.
