Abstract
Sonography is a very widely used diagnostic technique offering numerous advantages (Table 8-1) that have long been appreciated in the clinical imaging of abdominal, retroperitoneal, vascular, and gynecologic disorders. In orthopedics, ultrasound has been used for many years in the early detection of congenital hip dysplasias. But sonography is also playing an increasingly important role in the diagnosis of lesions of other joints (shoulder, knee), tendons, and muscles. A great variety of injuries and diseases of the knee joint can be diagnosed with ultrasound (Table 8-2) [145, 187, 205, 206, 258, 269, 456, 556].
