Abstract
Positive inotropic drugs and intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) counterpulsation may become necessary in patients with postoperative low cardiac output syndrome following coronary artery bypass surgery. In these patients, the maximum information about the functional state of the heart is required. Hemodynamic parameters like cardiac output and pulmonary arterial pressure demonstrate the consequences, but not the myocardial function itself.
