Abstract
Region-by-region comparisons of mean rCMRg1c data have proven uninformative for understanding behavior and cognition in patients with Down syndrome and childhood onset autism, and in the healthy elderly. Such comparisons ignore an important dimension of brain metabolism, namely patterns of regional cerebral metabolic rates. This paper shows that a correlation matrix approach can be used to determine these patterns, and to relate them to underlying functional neuroanatomy in health and disease.
