Summary

An empiric investigation revealed differences not only in the depressive symptoms of the various depressive subgroups but also in their use of leisure time. Endogenous bipolars: striving for appreciation and approval by means of skills and talents. Endogenous monopolars: undifferentiated self-awareness, lack of individual wishes and ideas, as well as stereotyped, passive behaviour taken over from others. Neurotic depressives: existing individual wishes and ideas fail because of their passive attitudes. Unclassified depressives: distrustful desire for peace and withdrawal.
