Abstract
Being in many countries one of the largest industrial employers and the key industrial earner of foreign exchange, the textile industry has been usually considered as an essential promoter of industrial development in developing countries. Likewise, the textile industry in Korea has been the leading industry in terms of its contribution to employment, GNP and exports. By concentrating on cotton textiles in the 1960s and synthetic fibers in the 1970s, the industry has evolved into the most important export industry in Korea and contributed greatly to the fast economic growth of Korea in the past two decades.
