Abstract

Monoclonal antibodies have brought about a revolution in immunoanalysis by giving access to the whole antibody repertory. So far the only accessible usable antibodies were those corresponding to dominant antigens or dominant epitopes. Unlike a popular idea the problem with polyclonal antibodies was not their heterogeneity, but rather the stereotyped character of the response to complex antigens which precluded the emergence of antibodies to minor antigens.
