Abstract
The specification described In this report is the result of a joint effort by users and vendors of dimensional measuring equipment to develop a standard for the communication of inspection data among automated systems. The specification was first developed by IIT Research Institute (ITTRI) with funding provided by the Quality Assurance Program of Computer Aided Manufacturing - International, Inc. (CAM-I). Version 1.0 was released to the public April 1986. Pratt&Whitney is currently under contract with CAM-I to eipand and refine the specification. The result of the Pratt&Whitney effort will be DMIS Version 2.0. It is anticipated that DMIS will become an American National Standard Institute (ANSI) standard during the last quarter of 1987.
