Pretreatment of Sludge Liquors in Sewage Treatment Plants

Abstract

Recycling of liquors from sludge processing facilities can sometimes create serious problems in sewage treatment plants. A literature review has shown that separate treatment of sludge liquors is feasible and can be a solution to the problems that occur. Norwegian data on pretreatment of sludge liquor from primary-chemical sewage treatment plants receiving septage are presented. Both the activated sludge process and the rotating biological contactor have been tested, and these processes can produce an effluent quality which causes no harm when returned to the plant inlet.
