Abstract

We have studied oxide films on Al(110) by photon stimulated desorption (PSD) on the Bell Labs U4 PGM at the National Synchrotron Light Source. Utilizing a time-of-flight technique [1] we have obtained ion energy distribution (IED) and relative ion yield (RIY) data at the Al 2p and 0 1s edges for oxides prepared at various temperatures. These initial studies suggest that different sites for the surface hydroxyls exist, that they can be selectively prepared, and examined by PSD.
