Abstract

The possible postinfectious nature of certain autoimmune diseases has gained considerable interest during recent years. Several diseases, inculding diabetes mellitus and multiple sclerosis, have been attributed to virus-induced autoimmunity [1, 2], although a cause-and-effect relationship has not been directly demonstrated.
