Prototypes of Learning Decision Support Systems for Machine and Project Scheduling

Abstract

In a laboratory course at the University of Karlsruhe, students have developed elements of expert-like systems in the field of operations research. Two such systems are described in this paper: the system SCHEDULE for machine scheduling, which is in existence, and the system PROJECTPLAN for project planning and scheduling, which is in development. Special emphasis is put on an appropriate choice of the rule types in the knowledge base and the realization of a learning component in both systems.
