Abstract

In accordance with the concept of breast cancer as a primarily loco-regional disease, a type of therapy was developed that quickly became linked with the names of Halsted (1894), Steinthal (1905) and, in the German-speaking countries, Rotter (1896), and was accepted throughout the world for many years.
