Zusammenfassung

Barrett hat 1950 eine Veränderung beschrieben, bei der sich als typisches Merkmal Magenschleimhaut im Bereich des thorakalen Ösophagus fand [2]. Er hat diesen Zustand zunächst als Intrathorakalverlagerung eines ubular umgestalteten Magenfundusanteils fehlinterpretiert. Erst die funktionellen Untersuchungen von Allison und Johnstone haben 1953 aufgezeigt, daß diese von Magenschleimhaut oder anderem Zylinderepithel ausgekleideten Intestinalareale funktionell dem Ösophagus zuzurechnen sind [1].
