Abstract

1955 B II gastrectomy following peptic ulcera, 1979 vertebral disc operation, 1981, transfusion hepatitis, 1986 endoscopic removal of polyps from the colon.

For 18 years the patient had experienced spinal discomfort associated with physical movement and stress. In recent months the discomfort, which radiated in both groins and both distal lower legs, had worsened. He also complained of a general muscular debility and in the past few months of increasing disability to walk, his maximum walking distance being reduced to approximately 50 m.
