Zusammenfassung

Die interdisziplinäre Schmerztherapie in der Sportmedizin befaßt sich mit schmerzbedingten Leistungseinschränkungen des Sportlers. Neben der Behandlung akuter schmerzhafter Zustände, z. B. unmittelbar nach einer Sportverletzung, rückt dabei zunehmend die Therapie chronischer Schmerzzustände aufgrund falscher oder zu starker Belastung von Gelenken, Sehnen, Bändern, Muskeln und Knochen im Rahmen sog. Überlastungssyndrome (Overuse-Syndrome) in den Mittelpunkt. Derartige chronische Beschwerden spielen inzwischen eine entscheidende Rolle im Bereich des Hochleistungssportes, da wettkampffähige Leistungen heute nur noch unter Schmerzen erbracht werden können. Aber auch im Breitensport gewinnen chronische schmerzhafte Leistungseinschränkungen zunehmend an Bedeutung.
