Abstract

Tumors of the spleen are uncommon and often asymptomatic. Most malignant splenic tumors have a lymphomatous etiology. The main risk with benign lesions is hemorrhage. Although the sonographic features of splenic tumors are usually nonspecific, the sensitivity of the technique appears satisfactory, except for lymphomas. Ultrasound detection of focal nonlymphomatous lesions warrants further investigation by computed tomography for accurate diagnosis.
