Abstract

Pulse propagation in optical fibres, including the effects of nonlinear change in the refractive index, group velocity dispersion and losses, is reviewed. An analysis of the effect of fifth-order nonlinearity on the soliton propagation in the model based on the damped nonlinear Schrödinger equation is made. The experimental observation of bright solitons and soliton laser are discussed in short.
