Abstract

Phototherapy for pruritus (itch) is used in mast cell disease, solar urticaria, atopic dermatitis, chronic prurigo, lichen planus, chronic renal failure, and cholestatic pruritus. In primary biliary cirrhosis, cholestatic pruritus is one of the most common and distressing symptoms and may be so severe and prolonged that it dominates the clinical picture.
