Abstract
Selection acts on phenotypes. This causes genetic effects when phenotypic variation is correlated with genetic variation. The link between the phenotypic and the geno-typic level is formed by gene physiology and developmental genetics. Understanding the impact of selection on genetic variation is dependent on the elucidation of this connection (Scharloo et al. 1977; Scharloo 1984).
