Stones in Caliceal Diverticula: Removal by Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy

  • Chapter
Endourology

Abstract

Pyelocaliceal diverticula are rare congenital malformations of the renal collecting system, with a small cavity being connected by a narrow channel to a calix or the renal pelvis, and both the diverticulum and the collecting channel are lined by transitional epithelium [1]. The incidence of this malformation as found on routine IVP studies is reportedly between 0.21% [2] and 0.45% [3]. No treatment is required unless symptoms from the most common complications of stone formation and infection occur [1].
