Abstract
Elective induction of labor under balanced anesthesia or epidural analgesia has been our routine procedure almost over the past 15 years. Artificial rupture of the membranes and/or intravenous infusion of oxytocics are supposed to be the most popular method of labor induction in the developed countries. Several methods of preinduction priming have been tried to decrease induction failure and other morbidity or to shorten duration of labor. In this paper focus is put on dystocia and the effect of laminaria tents for preinduction priming of the cervix, particularly in primiparas.
