Abstract

In this chapter, I will draw attention to the policies pursued by governments of the European Community with regard to the introduction and implementation of new and expensive technologies — so-called big-ticket technologies — in their health care systems.

This investigation was carried out by Barbara Stocking, London, Jean Francois Lacronique, Paris, and myself. The final report was completed at the end of 1982 (Groot 1982).
