Abstract

It is well recognized that simultaneous use of cytology and colposcopy can effectively increase accuracy in the detection of cervical cancer. Nonetheless, colposcopic screening has been impractical and uneconomical owing to the cost of colposcopes and the necessity for expertise in evaluation of colposcopic findings. To overcome these problems, an inexpensive optical instrument called the cervicograph was developed, allowing permanent documentation of objective cervical findings. A cervicogram can be obtained by technicians and sent to experts in colposcopy for evaluation.
