Abstract

In the treatment of coronary heart disease (CHD), the main therapeutic action of beta-blockers is the reduction of contractility and heart rate; for nitrates it is the reduction of filling pressure and heart size. Beta-blockers tend to increase heart size so the combination of beta-blockers and nitrates should be advantageous with regard to ventricular function.
