Zusammenfassung
Bei der klinischen Manifestation der Infektion mit dem humanen Immundefizienzvirus (HIV, von manchen Gruppen noch als HTLV-III oder LAV bezeichnet), dem erworbenen Immundefizienzsyndrom AIDS oder dem Lymphadenopathiesyndrom bzw. AIDS-related complex (LAS/ARC), wurden neurologische Symptome bei 39% der Patienten beobachtet (Levy et al. 1985a). Opportunistische Infektionen des ZNS sind eine häufige Ursache für Morbidität und Mortalität von AIDS-Patienten; daneben werden psychoorganische Abbauprozesse („AIDS-Demenz-Komplex“, Navia et al. 1986a; „AIDS-Enzephalopathie“, Shaw et al. 1985; Epstein et al. 1985a) beobachtet, bei denen zunehmend ein kausaler Zusammenhang mit der HIV-Infektion diskutiert wird (jüngste Übersichten bei Johnson u. McArthur 1986 sowie bei Gressentis 1986).
