Zusammenfassung
Der Frauensport hat in den vergangenen Jahren nicht zuletzt durch die Teilnahme von Kindern, jungen Mädchen und Adoleszenten einen erheblichen Aufschwung erfahren. Nahezu parallel dazu erschienen in der jüngeren Vergangenheit zahlreiche Publikationen, welche auf den Zusammenhang zwischen Leistungssport einerseits und verzögerte Pubertät, Spätmenarche und Zyklusstörungen andererseits bei Mädchen und gesunden Frauen hinweisen. In der Mehrzahl der Fälle handelt es sich dabei um Leistungssportlerinnen der Disziplinen Leichtathletik, Ballett, Turnen, Schwimmen und Eiskunstlaufen.
