New Aspects of the Dynamics of Acute Myocardial Infarction

Until recently, acute myocardial infarction (AMI) has been regarded as a single event. Only the latest results have indicated that AMI can be considered as an oscillating event based on a series of heavy coronary spasms (1–4). Alonso et al. (5) first described the course of AMI as an “episodic extension” in 1973. Then Kagen et al. (6) described the oscillating course of the serum curve of the biochemical marker myoglobin (Mb) (Fig.1) and were the first to ask: “Is AMI in man an intermittent event?”(6).
