Abstract
Linear optical polarisation maps are presented for the galaxies NGC5194/5 (M51), NGC4594 (M104), NGC1068 (M77) and NGC4565. In each case there is evidence for polarisation induced by magnetically aligned dust grains and the data are used to propose configurations of galactic scale magnetic fields.
