Abstract

Clinical studies and experimental research have established the teratological relationship between constant ethanol consumption throughout pregnancy, and the occurrence of alcohol embryopathy (AE) in the offspring of alcoholics (as reviewed by Abel, 1982). The implication of social or “binge” drinking is of specific interest because confusion exists concerning advice given to pregnant women about their drinking habits.
