Zusammenfassung
Auf dem Gebiet der Innenohrphysiologie wurden in den vergangenen Jahren grundlegend neue Erkenntnisse gewonnen. Dies stellt eine wesentliche Voraussetzung dar, um pathologische Veränderungen im Alter, bei Lärmexposition oder nach der Gabe ototoxischer Medikamente besser zu verstehen. Bei Kenntnis der verschiedenen pathogenetischen Faktoren (z.B. degenerative Prozesse im Alter; Lärmbelastung am Arbeitsplatz und in der Freizeit) kann man möglicherweise in Zukunft präventiv tätig werden und eine vorzeitige Alterung des Gehörs verhindern. Darüber hinaus können möglicherweise auf diese Weise auch neue kausal begründete Therapieansätze erarbeitet werden.
