Abstract

The clinical presentation of a subject with compromised vascularization of a leg or part of a leg, is multiple. Peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) can occur asymptomatically. In the Basle Study [1], one third of a subgroup of the study population had PAOD, confirmed by angiography, but they had no complaints. On the other end of the spectrum, the most dramatic clinical evolution of PAOD involves rest pain, ulceration and/or gangrene.
