Storage and secretion of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) by cultured atrial and ventricular cells from the neonatal rat
In the heart of the neonatal rat, myoendocrine ANP producing cells are located in the right and left atria and in the conduction tissue mainly of the left ventricle (2,10,11). When minced atrial and ventricular tissues from neonatal rats were transplanted to ectopic sites and analyzed after several weeks, strong ANP immunoreactivity was found only in atrial grafts (6). In cell culture atrial cells were ANP-immunoreactive but ventricular cells were not (3).
