Sites of action of ANF as a circulating hormone

Abstract

The physiological effect of ANF found its place in the pages of history about 2000 years ago. The ancient historian Joseph Flavius recorded in detail the contemporary construction of the Cesarea Maritima, the greatest harbor on the oriental shores of the Mediterranean. In doing so, he aptly referred to the trained divers who used to retrieve rocks and smooth the bottom of the sea as “urinatores”, reflecting their physiological diuretic response to prolonged submersion in water.
