Die Strategie der Karenz. Die Karenz der Allergene und der unspezifischen Reizstoffe ist die wichtigste zu empfehlende Maßnahme bei Asthma bronchiale und Rhinitis. Dieser Rat sollte der jeweiligen Krankheitsschwere angepaßt sein; rigorose Empfehlungen sind bei einem hochatopischen Kind mit schwerem Asthma bronchiale notwendig, während man einen Erwachsenen mit Rhinopathia vasomotorica erklärt, daß frische Luft, eine regelmäßige Lebensweise und das Vermeiden von alkoholischen Getränke, von Zigarettenrauch und gewürzten Speisen möglicherweise helfen kann. Die Wirksamkeit der Umgebungskontrolle bei der Linderung des Asthma bronchiale oder der exogen-allergischen Alveolitis ist offensichtlich, wenn man die Ergebnisse betrachtet, die sich daraus ergeben, daß die Patienten aus der Gefahrenzone der auslösenden Stoffe am Arbeitsplatz oder von Haustieren ferngehalten werden. Es ist deshalb auch notwendig, den Kontakt der betroffenen Person mit Umweltallergenen, wie Pollen, Schimmelpilzsporen und Hausstaubmilben einzuschränken.
