Abstract
Sub-mJ 25-fs pulses produce, by weakly ionizing argon in a capillary, white-light continuum in a nearly diffraction-limited beam. The near-infrared portion of the spectrum can be compressed to bandwidth-limited 4-fs pulses using novel ultrabroadband chirped mirrors.
