Zusammenfassung

Die Bezeichnung Mediastinaltumor ist ein klinischer Begriff, unter dem Raumforderungen im Mediastinum verstanden werden. Im strengen Sinne ist dies nicht korrekt, da das Mediastinum kein Organ ist und von daher keine Tumoren entwickeln kann. In der Praxis hat sich dieser Begriff jedoch durchgesetzt, da die meisten derartigen Raumforderungen einem einheitlichen diagnostischen und therapeutischen Procedere unterworfen sind.
