Zusammenfassung

Tabakrauchen ist — zweifelsfrei — eine der wichtigsten Ursachen für Krankheit und den frühzeitigen Tod vieler Menschen [35, 70, 114]. Weltweit sterben jährlich etwa 3 Mio. Menschen an den Folgen des Tabakkonsums, davon etwa 1,5 Mio. in den Industrieländern. In Deutschland sind es jährlich etwa 115000 Menschen [99]. Rund 40% der tabakbedingten Todesfälle werden durch Herz- Kreislauferkrankungen verursacht, mehr als 20% durch Bronchialkrebs und etwa 18% durch chronisch obstruktive Atemwegserkrankungen. Die restlichen, etwa 22% der Todesfälle sind auf verschiedene andere tabakbedingte Erkrankungen zurückzuführen [139].
