Zusammenfassung
Auf der Basis mehrerer Forschungsprojekte, die die Frage der Globalisierung von Forschung und Entwicklung (F&E) und Innovation in großen, multinational tätigen Unternehmen zum Inhalt hatten, werden im folgenden wichtige Beobachtungen und Trends dargestellt.1 Die Wissensproduktion und -nutzimg erfolgt in vielen Unternehmen immer stärker weltweit verteilt. Dies kann u.a. an dem Auslandsanteil von F&E gemessen werden. Im Durchschnitt führen die großen multinationalen Gesellschaften ca. 15% ihrer F&E im Ausland durch. Unternehmen aus kleineren europäischen Staaten und aus bestimmten Branchen erreichen z.T. deutlich darüberliegende Werte. Am weitesten vorangeschritten im Internationalisierungs-prozeß von F&E sind chemisch-pharmazeutische Unternehmen. Beispielsweise hat die Firma Hoechst seit 1995 mehr F&E im Ausland investiert als in Deutschland.
