Abstract
The erythrocyte provides a novel model for the study of aging. This cellular system is readily sampled, constantly turning over, and of no synthetic capacity after the reticulocyte stage. As such, the erythrocyte has been studied as a model for cellular aging in young hosts. The erythrocyte provides an equally fascinating model for the study of the effects of host age on cellular aging.
