Abstract
In this talk results from the study of particle-γ coincidences are presented which are related to giant resonance decay of highly excited compound nuclei. The α + 159Tb reaction was investigated in which compound nuclei of excitation energy up to about 90 MeV are produced. In the spectra a splitting of the electric giant dipole resonance built on highly excited states of Dy nuclei is clearly observed which is different from the splitting in cold nuclei. Also, indication for an enhanced El strength at low energies is found. For the first time evidence for Ml decay is obtained in these compound systems.
